Lucknow News: Uttar Pradesh, India’s largest state by population and size, is led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, whose wealth ranks relatively low compared to other Chief Ministers in the country. According to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), Yogi Adityanath holds the 25th spot in a list of 31 Chief Ministers with declared assets worth ₹1.54 crore. This places him significantly below many of his peers in terms of wealth.

The ADR report broke down the riches of Chief Ministers across India. While Yogi Adityanath’s riches are minimal, Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu stood at the pinnacle with a phenomenal ₹931.83 crore.

- N. Chandrababu Naidu (Andhra Pradesh): ₹931.83 crore
- Pema Khandu (Arunachal Pradesh): ₹332 crore (with a debt of ₹180 crore)
Least Wealthy Chief Ministers
- Mamata Banerjee (West Bengal): ₹15 lakh West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stands out for her modest lifestyle, reflected in her minimal assets, making her the least wealthy in the list.
Average Wealth and Income of Chief Ministers
The report worked out the average wealth of the 31 Chief Ministers at ₹52.59 crore. That stands in jarring contrast to the country’s average per capita net national income (NNI) at ₹1,85,854 for 2023-2024. In absolute terms, on average, the annual income of a Chief Minister stands at ₹13,64,310—which is 7.3 times more than the national average.
Criminal Cases Against Chief Ministers
The report also gave details of the criminal cases of several Chief Ministers:
- 13 CMs reported cases against themselves in election affidavits. The serious cases, including charges like attempted murder, kidnapping, bribery, and criminal intimidation, have been admitted to by 10 CMs. The highest number of cases (89) are faced by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, of which 72 are serious cases. Tamil Nadu’s M.K. Stalin is next on the list.

The report underlines significant differences in the economic profiles of state leaders. While some Chief Ministers conduct simple lives with limited amounts of wealth, others have a tremendous amount of financial influence. From the data, it can be understood that although the wealth may point to a leader’s financial standing, it doesn’t have to correspond to their popularity or effectiveness.
