Uttar Pradesh Police’s Seven-Year Report: Uttar Pradesh Police has come out with its performance report covering the period between 2017 and December 2024. This report details a series of large-scale operations against organized crime, mafias, and other lawbreakers under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. It outlines the progress of the state in terms of building up the law and order scenario while focusing on the weaknesses to be rectified.
Uttar Pradesh Police’s Seven-Year Report Highlights
217 Criminals Neutralized in Encounters
UP Police conducted a vigorous campaign against crime between 2017 and 2024, neutralizing 217 criminals in encounters and injuring 7,799 offenders during operations. However, it was not without sacrifices—17 police officers laid down their lives, and 1,644 officers sustained injuries during these operations.
₹140 Billion Worth of Mafia Assets Seized
The UP Police has claimed significant success in dismantling criminal empires, confiscating assets worth over ₹140 billion. Legal action led to the conviction of 7,546 offenders, while 1,391 gang members of identified mafia groups were incarcerated, dismantling their networks.
Women’s Safety: Anti-Romeo Teams in Action
To safeguard women, Anti-Romeo squads were constituted all over the state that took action against 18,926 alleged individuals. This measure has further boosted the women’s perception of safety. The state also removed 212 illegal taxi stands, providing respite for passengers.
Strict Action Against Exam Paper Leaks
One of the significant challenges the state government had to face was the notorious paper leak incidents, particularly in the constable recruitment exams. The STF responded immediately against the cheating mafia and kept over 1,000 suspects under surveillance to ensure that examination processes are free and fair by August 2024. To avoid any further leak in the future, the state government brought some strict measures.
Religious Harmony and Safety
UP Police focused primarily on maintaining peace at religious places and during events. In fact, during the consecration of Shri Ram Lalla at the Ram Temple in 2024, the police ensured exemplary crowd and security management despite heavy turnout.
From managing international cricket matches to overseeing Lok Sabha election rallies, the UP Police demonstrated outstanding efficiency in security arrangements. High-profile VVIP movements and mass gatherings were handled with precision.
Noteworthy Incidents
- Counter-Terrorism Success: In collaboration with Punjab Police, UP Police neutralized three Khalistani terrorists in a joint operation.
- Bank Robbery Attempt Busted: The IOB Bank in Lucknow’s Chinhat area saw a robbery attempt when the police eliminated two robbers.
- Wanted Criminal Killed: ₹ 1 Lakh Reward: Sultanpur saw one wanted criminal killed. Mangesh Yadav was found carrying a ₹1 lakh bounty.
Challenges and Areas for Improvement
Although the UP Police has taken a significant leap, some incidents revealed where improvement was needed. The tragic stampede in a religious gathering in Hathras in 2024 that killed 123 people pointed out the need for crowd management strategies to be better.
The report reflects the commitment of the UP government towards law and order. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath continues to emphasize the state’s improved safety metrics in public forums, asserting that UP Police has set a benchmark for other states.
However, as challenges persist, the police force aims to enhance its operations and address gaps in preparedness, ensuring Uttar Pradesh remains a model of governance and security.
