Ahead of the grand Amrit Snan, or holy dip, during Mouni Amavasya at the Kumbh Mela, Indian Railways and Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) have finalised their preparations to manage the influx of millions of devotees.
More than 150 special trains will be operated by Indian Railways, and a record 8,000 buses from UPSRTC will be moving on Mouni Amavasya. The special train services will operate from the stations at Prayagraj like Prayagraj Junction, Chheoki, Naini, Prayag, and Rambagh.
In addition, 7,000 buses will be operated in the districts of the state by Uttar Pradesh Roadways while another 1,000 will be kept as standby for urgent needs. These buses will cater to the pilgrims coming to the Mela and other important places situated in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
The DRM (Divisional Railway Manager) of Prayagraj on Friday stated that over 150 special trains would operate from eight railway stations across three zones in Prayagraj. If routine trains are added, the total number of trains will cross 400. As per the DRM, between January 13 and 23, 950 special trains have already been operated to manage the rush. Besides, on Makar Sankranti, 134 trains were operated on demand to cater to the pilgrimage.
On the day of Mouni Amavasya, 58 long-distance trains will be canceled on different dates, but in addition, more trains will be added to it. For this operation, 28 trains headed for Prayagraj will be diverted to Chheoki Railway Station.
There would be announcements about route-specific train services at major railway stations and intersections to maintain smooth operations, crowd control, and to distribute pilgrims evenly so that order was maintained at each railway station in connection with Kumbh Mela.
With these elaborate arrangements in place, Indian Railways and UPSRTC are all set to ensure a hassle-free and safe experience for the millions of devotees attending the Mouni Amavasya ritual at the Kumbh Mela.
