Etah Police Accused of Extortion: Demanding ₹15,000 for Executing Warrants

Etah, Uttar Pradesh – A bizarre case of alleged corruption has surfaced in the Etah police force. A local resident, Brijesh Kumar, has accused the police of extorting ₹15,000 from him under the pretext of executing arrest warrants.

Brijesh Kumar, who is now a complainant in two different cases, alleged that constables Dharam Singh and Jwala Singh of the Mandi Chowki of Kotwali Nagar police station have been demanding additional bribes for carrying out their duties. According to Brijesh, the policemen had already taken ₹15,000 from him earlier and are now pressuring him for more money to arrest the accused in the cases he filed.

The complainant had further complained to the effect that he had been regularly pressurized for bribes by the police officers, leaving him feeling like an easy prey with a bitter frustration against the administration. “They are pressing for a bribe every now and then. That can’t be tolerable,” says Brijesh in his affidavit.

Such a happening raises fundamental questions about the credibility and the working mechanisms of the police department of the locale. Allegations such as this shadow the sense of accountability carried by lawmen as well as the system developed for justice delivered to the populace.

Seeking justice, Brijesh Kumar has appealed to the SSP to investigate the matter thoroughly and take appropriate action against the accused officers. This incident, focusing on the Mandi Chowki under Kotwali Nagar police station, caught the attention of senior officials as well as the people.

The allegations have triggered public outcry and reopened debates on corruption in the police. Whether authorities will move in to address the issue and revive public trust in the system remains to be seen.
