PM Modi Chairs High-Level Defence Meet — As tensions between India and Pakistan continue to escalate, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday chaired a high-level security meeting with the country’s top defence leadership to assess the current security landscape and strategise the next steps.
In attendance were Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the three service chiefs — Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi, and Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari.
This crucial meeting comes in the wake of fresh provocations by Pakistan, which violated Indian airspace during the night of May 8 and 9. According to Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, Pakistan deployed a fleet of over 300 to 400 drones across 36 sensitive locations ranging from Leh to Sir Creek, targeting key Indian military installations.
“Our forces acted swiftly and decisively, neutralising the aerial threat posed by these drones. Every single one was shot down, ensuring no damage to any military facility,” said Wing Commander Singh during a press briefing.
Sources close to the government revealed that the Prime Minister was briefed in detail about the scale and nature of the Pakistani offensive, and the Indian military’s prompt and effective countermeasures.
Modi Engages with Veterans for Strategic Insights
Earlier in the day, PM Modi also held an exclusive interaction with military veterans, including former chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The session was aimed at gathering experienced perspectives on managing the escalating situation and ensuring India’s defence preparedness remains robust.
The veterans reportedly emphasised the importance of maintaining operational readiness while exercising strategic restraint to avoid full-scale escalation unless absolutely necessary.
Rising Cross-Border Tensions
Over the past few weeks, India-Pakistan relations have deteriorated sharply. The latest drone incursion marks one of the most serious security threats in recent times. Intelligence agencies have also warned of possible hybrid warfare attempts by Pakistan, including cyber-attacks and misinformation campaigns targeting Indian civilians and defence forces.
Nation Stands United
Amid these turbulent times, the government has assured the public of full military preparedness and a strong, measured response to any act of aggression.
“India remains committed to peace but will not hesitate to protect its sovereignty and national interests,” said an official statement issued by the Ministry of Defence following the meeting.
The developments have sparked a wave of patriotic support across the country, with citizens lauding the Indian armed forces for their swift response and unwavering dedication to national security.
