Operation Sindoor Update: Flights Cancelled, Airports Closed in Northern India Following Cross-Border Strike

Operation Sindoor Update

Operation Sindoor Update: In a significant military development early Wednesday morning, India launched Operation Sindoor, a high-intensity strike deep inside Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and targeted strategic assets in Pakistan. In response to the escalating security concerns, several key airports in northern India have been shut down temporarily, and major airlines have cancelled flights to and from critical locations.

Srinagar Airport Closed; No Civilian Flights Today

Authorities at Srinagar Airport confirmed that the airfield has been closed until further notice. In a statement, airport officials said,

“Today, no civil flights will be operated from Srinagar Airport. The airfield remains closed due to the ongoing situation.”

Airlines Issue Travel Advisories

Following the military strike, multiple airlines, including national carrier Air India, have issued urgent travel advisories. Air India announced the cancellation of all flights to and from the following stations until 12 noon on 7th May 2025:

  • Jammu
  • Srinagar
  • Leh
  • Jodhpur
  • Amritsar
  • Bhuj
  • Jamnagar
  • Chandigarh
  • Rajkot

The advisory also included an update regarding international operations.

“Two international flights en route to Amritsar have been diverted to Delhi. We regret the inconvenience caused due to this unforeseen disruption,” the airline posted on its official handle on X (formerly Twitter).

Security Measures and Passenger Advisory

The decision to halt flight operations comes amid heightened security measures across the Indo-Pak border following the strike. Civil aviation authorities are on high alert and closely monitoring the situation.

Passengers scheduled to travel to or from the affected airports are strongly advised to check with their respective airlines for real-time updates and rescheduling options. Refunds and flexible bookings are being facilitated by most carriers to minimize passenger inconvenience.

What Is Operation Sindoor?

While official details of Operation Sindoor are still emerging, defense sources indicate that it involved targeted aerial and ground-based strikes on terrorist infrastructure across the LoC and into Pakistan’s territory. The strategic move aims to neutralize imminent threats and send a strong message about India’s zero-tolerance approach to cross-border terrorism.

Looking Ahead

Flight operations are expected to remain disrupted until at least 12 noon today, with further updates likely based on evolving security assessments. Passengers are urged to stay informed via airline websites, social media channels, and official government bulletins.
