Buxar, Bihar – April 20, Bihar Elections 2025: In a fiery address to a packed crowd in Buxar, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge launched a blistering attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, accusing them of forming an “opportunistic” alliance that he claimed is not in the best interest of the people of Bihar.

Mallikarjun Kharge, who was in the state ahead of the much-anticipated Assembly polls, didn’t hold back as he slammed both leaders for what he termed as their “power-hungry” politics. “PM Modi believes the people of Bihar lack wisdom. But let me remind him—Bihar gave this country some of its greatest thinkers and revolutionaries. The people here are aware, ethical, and won’t be fooled by hollow promises,” Kharge thundered from the stage at Dalsagar Stadium.
Sharp Criticism of ED Action Against Gandhi Family
Kharge also took aim at the BJP-led central government over recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) actions against members of the Gandhi family, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Describing the move as politically motivated, Kharge said, “The ED is being misused to target our party leadership. This is not law enforcement—it’s political vendetta. But we will not be silenced.”
Waqf Amendment Law ‘Designed to Divide’: Kharge
Another key issue raised by Kharge was the controversial Waqf (Amendment) Act. He alleged that the law was a deliberate attempt by the BJP and RSS to stoke communal tensions. “This amendment is not about governance—it’s about creating a divide between communities. The BJP and RSS have never truly cared about the upliftment of the weaker sections of our society,” he said.
Cancelled Patna Event and Political Implications
Though Kharge was scheduled to speak at a second rally in Patna later in the day, the event was cancelled due to last-minute scheduling changes. Bihar Congress spokesperson Rajesh Rathod confirmed that the Congress chief had to return to Delhi due to other pressing engagements.
Kharge’s visit, albeit brief, is being viewed as strategically significant. With just a few months left before Bihar heads to the polls, the Congress is ramping up its ground-level campaign efforts in alliance with RJD and Left parties under the banner of ‘Mahagathbandhan’—a united front aiming to dethrone the ruling NDA coalition led by the BJP and JD(U).
A High-Stakes Battle Ahead
The Assembly elections in Bihar are expected to be a high-stakes contest, not just for regional players but for national politics as well. With Nitish Kumar’s frequent political shifts and the BJP’s strong grassroots machinery, the opposition bloc is gearing up for a tough fight.
Kharge’s statements in Buxar signal that the Congress is not only aiming to energize its base but is also trying to position itself as the voice of resistance against what it calls an “authoritarian regime.”
As Bihar gears up for the political showdown, one thing is certain—this election season is going to be intense, emotional, and closely watched by the entire nation.
