The Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, carrying 242 passengers, crashed shortly after takeoff on June 12, 2025. The tragic incident took place near the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, in the Meghani Nagar area. The crash happened at around 1:40 PM, leaving behind a trail of heartbreak and sorrow.

According to reports, Arjun Patolia had travelled to Amreli, Gujarat, to fulfil his late wife Bharatiben’s final wish—to immerse her ashes in her hometown. After completing the rituals with his family, Arjun Patolia was on his way back to London, where his daughters, aged four and eight, were waiting for him. The journey he had hoped would bring him back to his children ended in disaster.

Air India confirmed the crash and said, “We regret to inform that of the 242 aboard, there are 241 confirmed fatalities. The sole survivor, a British national of Indian origin, is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.” The passenger list included 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, seven Portuguese citizens, and one Canadian.

Heartbreaking stories like Arjun Patolia’s have been pouring in since the accident. Another emotional account was shared by Pratik Joshi and his wife Kaumi Vyas. Minutes before the crash, they posted a cheerful selfie with their three young children from inside the plane. Kaumi, a physician at Pacific Hospital in Udaipur, had just quit her job to start a new chapter with her family abroad. Pratik had been living in London for six years, and the family was finally about to reunite for good.

This Air India tragedy has shaken families across continents. Lives were lost, dreams were shattered, and the future changed forever for many. The world now watches and prays as authorities investigate what caused this devastating crash, hoping such a tragedy never repeats.
