Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder: In a deeply disturbing twist in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, police have revealed that Sonam Raghuvanshi and her alleged boyfriend Raj Kushwaha had planned to kill another woman and burn her body to make it look like Sonam had died. This plan was meant to help Sonam go into hiding after the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya.

According to Meghalaya Police, five people have been arrested in connection with the murder, and investigations are ongoing to reconstruct the entire crime scene. The police disclosed that the group had already reached Assam days before the newlywed couple landed in the Northeast on May 19. The plot to fake Sonam’s death was part of a long-planned conspiracy that started back in February in Indore.
Raj Kushwaha, who is believed to be the mastermind, reportedly suggested several ideas to help Sonam disappear after Raja’s death. One of the shocking ideas included murdering any unknown woman, burning her body, and claiming it was Sonam’s remains. However, these plans did not work out.
On May 23, all three accused, including Sonam, Akash, and Vishal, went with Raja to Weisawdong Falls in Meghalaya. There, they attacked Raja with a machete and killed him between 2:00 pm and 2:18 pm. They threw his body into a gorge. After the murder, Sonam gave her blood-stained raincoat to Akash, who later disposed of it. They also abandoned the scooter rented in Sonam and Raja’s name.
To escape without being recognized, Sonam wore a burqa given by Raj and fled from Shillong to Guwahati, then Siliguri, and finally traveled by buses and train to reach Indore through Patna, Arah, and Lucknow.
Raj advised Sonam to claim she had been kidnapped and managed to escape. But as soon as Akash was arrested in Uttar Pradesh, Raj panicked and asked Sonam to contact her family with the fake story. This led to the police tracking her down in Ghazipur and uncovering the truth.
A local tour guide also confirmed seeing Raja and Sonam with three others, which helped the investigation. The police have recovered key evidence including the raincoat and the abandoned two-wheeler. They are now confident about filing a strong charge sheet within the required 90-day period.
Sonam’s brother Govind, shocked by the events, publicly stated that if his sister is guilty, she should be given the harshest punishment and that he has cut all ties with her.
This case has stunned the entire nation with its brutal planning and chilling details. The investigation is ongoing, and all five accused are currently in police custody for further questioning.
