In a development that has caught the attention of political circles in Punjab, Gian Singh Mann, the cousin of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday in Chandigarh.
The induction took place in the presence of Sunil Jakhar, the state president of the BJP in Punjab. Senior party leaders welcomed Gian Singh Mann into the party fold during a small but significant political gathering. Also present on the occasion was Naib Singh Saini, the Chief Minister of Haryana, who extended his support to the new entrants.
Gian Singh Mann shares a close family connection with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He is the son of the younger brother of the Chief Minister’s father. Sources familiar with the family say the relationship runs even deeper, as the mothers of both cousins are sisters. Because of this close family bond, the political switch has generated considerable discussion in state political circles.
While political differences among relatives are not uncommon in India, the move still stands out because Bhagwant Mann is currently leading the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab. Gian Singh Mann’s decision to join the BJP highlights how political choices often follow their own paths, even within the same family.
The event also saw the entry of a few other political figures into the BJP. Baljinder Barnala, a leader associated with the Aam Aadmi Party, and party zonal in-charge Manjinder Khera also joined the BJP during the ceremony.
Leaders present at the event described the new joinings as a sign that the BJP continues to expand its presence in Punjab. Over the past few months, the party has been making efforts to bring in regional leaders and strengthen its grassroots network in the state.
Political observers say that such developments often signal shifting alliances and evolving political dynamics in Punjab. As parties prepare for upcoming political contests in the state, every new induction or shift in loyalty becomes part of the larger narrative shaping Punjab’s political landscape.
For now, Gian Singh Mann’s entry into the BJP adds another interesting chapter to the ongoing political story of Punjab, where personal ties and political ambitions often intersect in unexpected ways.
