Uttar Pradesh Weather Update: A severe cold wave has gripped Uttar Pradesh tightly, claiming five lives in the past 24 hours. Two deaths were reported in Fatehpur, two in Kanpur Dehat, and one in Chitrakoot, where a farmer succumbed to extreme weather conditions. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert, warning of severe cold and dense fog across several districts, alongside forecasts of thunder and hailstorms in western Uttar Pradesh.
Thunderstorms/hailstorms warnings have been issued for the following districts today: Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Mathura, Bijnor, Amroha, Rampur, Moradabad, and Sambhal. Light rain or hailstorm with thunder would occur in these districts.
Dense fog and very cold conditions are likely to continue from January 7 to 8 in districts like Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Saharanpur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, and other western and central Uttar Pradesh districts.
In the state capital, Lucknow, maximum was at 17.7°C on Monday – 2.7 degrees below normal; the minimum remained at 7 degrees Celsius. Same conditions would continue today too; there might be dense fog by late tonight and early morning and perhaps some respite in the afternoon with better conditions.
The cold wave has resulted in a considerable number of districts shivering through freezing conditions. Agra, Mathura and Firozabad have woke up to cold winds. Here, though fog has receded, bone-crunching chill is continuing unabated to hit the daily life.
Dense fog warnings have also been issued for Banda, Chitrakoot, Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Pratapgarh, Jaunpur, Aligarh, Hathras, Agra, Etawah, Jhansi, and many other districts. Travel is dangerous due to poor visibility in several areas, which has affected road and rail traffic.
Authorities are urging residents to take precautions, particularly vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children. Warm clothing, limited outdoor exposure, and the use of heaters in enclosed spaces are recommended.
The Meteorological Department predicts no significant change in temperature over the next few days. Residents are advised to stay updated with local weather alerts and prepare for continued harsh conditions.
Uttar Pradesh gears up for yet another extreme weather cycle as safety and warmth take priority.
