Uttar Pradesh Rocket Launch: In a remarkable milestone for India’s space journey, Uttar Pradesh has etched its name into the country’s space map with the successful launch of a model rocket carrying a payload. Conducted in Kushinagar district, the test marked the first instance of a satellite being launched by a rocket from the state — a development hailed as historic by experts and officials.

The launch, held on Saturday, was carried out jointly by the Astronautical Society of India, the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The model rocket, weighing 15 kilograms, soared to an altitude of 1.12 kilometres at precisely 5:14:33 pm, achieving complete mission success. Witnessing the event were several dignitaries, including ISRO scientist Abhishek Singh.
According to Singh, “The rocket reached a height of 1.1 km and successfully deployed a small satellite (payload). As it descended to five metres from the ground, the satellite’s parachute automatically deployed, ensuring a smooth and controlled landing within a 400-metre radius.”
Adding to the feat, the entire rocket also landed safely post-launch, demonstrating not just the technical capabilities but also the safety measures integrated into the design.
This successful test is part of the IN-SPACe Model Rocketry/CANSAT India Student Competition 2024-25 and sets the stage for a grander event scheduled for October–November this year. The upcoming event will involve the launch and testing of nearly 900 student-built satellites, aiming to inspire young minds and deepen interest in space science.
Vinod Kumar, Director of the Promotion Directorate at IN-SPACe, highlighted the broader goal behind such initiatives. “This event is being organised to generate interest in space technology among children across the region and the whole of India. It’s more than just a launch — it’s about igniting a passion for space exploration in the youth.”
IN-SPACe, functioning under the Department of Space, serves as a single-window platform to authorise and promote the involvement of private entities in India’s growing space sector. Saturday’s successful launch not only represents technological achievement but also a collaborative vision of nurturing innovation at the grassroots level.
As Uttar Pradesh celebrates its first-ever rocket launch with a deployed payload, this event is set to inspire a new generation of scientists, engineers, and space enthusiasts across India. The skies are no longer the limit — they’re just the beginning.
