On Monday, July 8, the Indian stock market benchmarks, the Sensex and the Nifty 50, ended the day without much change. Despite gains in heavyweights like ITC, Reliance Industries, ONGC, and Infosys, losses in HDFC Bank, Titan, and Mahindra and Mahindra, influenced by mixed global cues, balanced the market dynamics.
Investors engaged in a tug of war between buying stocks at attractive valuations and booking profits in those trading at a premium. The Sensex opened at 79,915, slightly down from its previous close of 79,996.60, and traded mostly in the red throughout the session. Ultimately, it closed 36 points, or 0.05%, lower at 79,960.38. Similarly, the Nifty 50 opened at 24,329.45, also lower than its previous close of 24,323.85, and ended the day down by 3 points at 24,320.55.
