Chandigarh, June 10, 2025 — The father of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, Balkaur Singh, has approached a Mansa court seeking an urgent stay on the screening of a Sidhu Moosewala Investigative Documentary based on his son’s life and death. The documentary is scheduled for release on June 11, which also marks Sidhu Moosewala’s birth anniversary.
The matter has been listed for hearing before the Civil Judge (Senior Division) in the Mansa court later this afternoon.
According to family sources, Balkaur Singh completed all legal formalities on Monday, following which he filed a petition on Tuesday requesting the court to immediately direct the broadcaster to halt the screening. The documentary, reportedly titled “Sidhu Moosewala Investigative Documentary “, is being released by a foreign media house and is planned for screening in Mumbai.
Citing Risks of Public Unrest and Legal Interference
In his petition, Balkaur Singh raised strong objections, stating that the documentary contains unauthorised content, sensitive footage, and private testimonies, all of which could potentially disrupt public order and interfere with the ongoing murder investigation.
“This documentary includes unpublished materials and commentary that could not only affect the case but also violate the privacy and posthumous dignity of my son,” he stated.
He added that the documentary’s timing — being released on his son’s birthday — appears to be deliberately provocative and could lead to emotional distress among fans and followers, many of whom are still grappling with the shock of Moosewala’s tragic death.
Legal Actions Already Initiated
Balkaur Singh has already sent a legal notice to the foreign broadcaster and has filed complaints with the Maharashtra Police, urging them to restrain and suspend the documentary screening.
The broadcaster’s legal team, in response, has requested a 10-day window to respond to the notice. Meanwhile, the family is awaiting the court’s verdict with bated breath.
Moosewala’s Legacy Continues
In a separate development, sources close to the family have confirmed that an extended play (EP) album of Sidhu Moosewala’s unreleased songs will be launched on Wednesday, coinciding with his birth anniversary.
Sidhu Moosewala, a rising star in Punjabi music, was shot dead on May 29, 2022, in Jawaharke village near Mansa, sending shockwaves across India and beyond. His music, however, continues to inspire millions globally.
