The alleged theft of cash collected from donation boxes inside the Ram Lalla Temple in Ayodhya has triggered widespread concern across the country, prompting a strong response from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, which described the incident as a painful blow to the faith and emotions of millions of devotees associated with the historic shrine.

RSS Calls for Strict Action After Alleged Theft From Donation Boxes at Ayodhya Ram Temple

Issuing an official statement from New Delhi on Thursday, RSS Sarkaryawah Dattatreya Hosabale said the grand Ram Temple stands as a symbol of generations of struggle, sacrifice and unwavering devotion of countless Ram devotees whose efforts ultimately culminated in the construction of the temple at the birthplace of Lord Ram.

According to the RSS, the reported theft of money deposited by devotees in donation boxes within the temple premises has deeply hurt the sentiments of the wider Hindu community. The organisation stated that the incident has caused anguish not only among devotees visiting Ayodhya but also among millions of people across India and abroad who consider the temple a sacred centre of faith and spiritual identity.

Hosabale noted that the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust had formally requested intervention from the Uttar Pradesh government following the discovery of the alleged irregularities. Acting on that request, the state government constituted a Special Investigation Team to examine the matter and initiate legal proceedings based on its findings.

The RSS leader stressed that identifying every individual involved and ensuring strict punishment through the legal process would be essential in restoring public confidence. He emphasised that accountability in such a sensitive matter was not merely an administrative necessity but also a moral obligation towards the millions of devotees who contribute to the temple with faith and reverence.

The statement further reflected the broader expectations of the Hindu community from the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust, saying the incident should be treated as an exceptional and serious lapse rather than an ordinary financial irregularity. It urged temple authorities to undertake a comprehensive review of operational systems, financial management practices and security arrangements to prevent any recurrence of such incidents in the future.

Hosabale observed that the present atmosphere of confusion and uncertainty surrounding the issue should be brought to an end through transparent action and timely communication. He expressed hope that both the temple administration and the Special Investigation Team established by the government would take every necessary step to address concerns and restore confidence among devotees.

The RSS also underlined the importance of creating robust and transparent financial mechanisms within religious institutions that receive large public contributions. The statement argued that efficient administration, impeccable financial management and an environment rooted in sanctity and purity were essential for preserving the trust that devotees place in institutions connected with their faith.

The Ram Temple in Ayodhya occupies a unique place in India’s social and religious landscape. For many devotees, contributions made at the shrine are not viewed as donations in the conventional sense but as offerings made with spiritual devotion. Any allegation involving misuse or theft of such offerings therefore carries emotional implications that extend far beyond financial loss.

Against this backdrop, the RSS appealed for patience and restraint from the public while the investigation continues. The organisation urged members of society not to jump to conclusions and cautioned against attempts by what it described as anti-Hindu and anti-national forces to exploit the incident to malign Hindu religious institutions or create social discord.

The statement concluded with an expression of confidence in the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, saying the institution would continue to uphold the faith of millions through transparent governance, effective management and adherence to the spiritual values associated with one of Hinduism’s most revered sites.

As investigations progress, the case has assumed significance beyond the alleged theft itself, emerging as a test of institutional transparency and public trust at one of the country’s most important religious landmarks. The response of the authorities and temple management in the coming weeks is likely to shape public perception and determine how quickly confidence can be fully restored among devotees worldwide.
