Mohali Office Murder Case: The investigation into the brutal murder of a 29-year-old woman inside a private office in Mohali has entered a crucial phase, but police are still waiting to formally question the accused, who remains hospitalized after allegedly attempting to take his own life immediately following the attack.
According to Mohali Police, 34-year-old Harjinder Mann, who is accused of fatally stabbing his colleague Dimple inside their workplace on Thursday evening, has not yet been declared medically fit to provide a statement. Investigators say they will begin questioning him as soon as doctors give clearance.
The shocking incident, which has sent waves of grief and anger across Punjab and the Chandigarh region, unfolded inside a private company office near Bestech Mall in Mohali. Police officials said Mann allegedly carried two knives to the workplace and used one of them to attack Dimple. Both weapons have since been recovered from the crime scene and are being examined as part of the investigation.
The attack occurred during a shift change, a period when relatively few employees were present on the office floor. Investigators believe the accused may have taken advantage of the reduced staff presence to carry out the assault. A purported CCTV video that surfaced online appears to show Mann approaching Dimple from behind before launching the deadly attack, footage that has further intensified public outrage over the case.
Police said Dimple suffered nearly 30 stab wounds. After allegedly attacking her repeatedly, Mann reportedly turned the knife on himself in an apparent suicide attempt. Both were rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared Dimple dead on arrival. Mann survived and has remained under medical treatment since then.
A murder case has been registered against the accused, and police officials say the investigation is progressing based on witness statements, forensic evidence, and digital material collected from the scene.
As investigators piece together the events leading up to the crime, preliminary findings suggest a troubled personal history between the two colleagues. Police officials say Dimple and Mann had known each other for several years while working at the same process-oriented freight brokerage and business support company. Both originally belonged to Patiala and had been living separately in paying guest accommodations in Mohali.
According to the initial investigation, the two shared a close friendship that later deteriorated. Police believe the relationship had ended several months ago, after which Mann repeatedly attempted to reconnect with Dimple. Officials say she rejected those efforts, a development investigators suspect may have contributed to the accused’s alleged actions.
Mohali Phase 11 SHO Aman Baidwan said the two were once very close but later experienced differences that led to a rift. Investigators are examining communication records and other evidence to establish a clearer picture of their relationship and the events that preceded the attack.
Police have also revealed that Mann had reportedly been struggling emotionally following the breakdown of another relationship before he became close to Dimple. Investigators are looking into this aspect as part of the broader inquiry, though officials stress that the exact motive will only become clearer once the accused is able to provide a statement and all evidence is analyzed.
Meanwhile, Dimple’s family continues to grapple with the devastating loss. Relatives in Patiala said they were completely unaware of Mann’s identity and had no indication that their daughter faced any threat. The family described the killing as unimaginable and said they are still trying to come to terms with the tragedy.
Adding another heartbreaking dimension to the case, family members revealed that Dimple had planned to resign from her job on Friday. According to relatives, discussions regarding her marriage were underway, and the family had been actively searching for a suitable match. What was expected to be the beginning of a new chapter in her life instead ended in a tragedy that has left her loved ones shattered.
