India have unveiled a formidable squad for the 2026 Asian Games, signaling their intent to defend the gold medal they won three years ago. The selection has been headlined by the return of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who is set to make his comeback to competitive cricket after being rested from India’s upcoming tours of Ireland and England.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-member squad packed with international experience and emerging talent for the continental event, which will take place in Japan from September 19 to October 4. The tournament will be staged in the Aichi Prefecture, with Nagoya serving as the primary host city for cricket matches and related events.

Shreyas Iyer, recently appointed as India’s T20 International captain, will lead the side at the Games. The selectors have largely retained the core group that was chosen for the Ireland and England assignments, reflecting confidence in a squad that combines explosive batting depth with a versatile bowling attack.

The biggest talking point from the squad announcement is the inclusion of Bumrah. One of the world’s premier fast bowlers, Bumrah has been carefully managed by the team management in recent months.
