A quiet Friday morning in Meerut’s Harra town turned into a scene of horror after a 40-year-old social media influencer and beautician was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband inside their home, with a family property dispute emerging as the central trigger behind the brutal crime.
Police said Nisha Chauhan, known locally for her beauty parlour business and her growing presence on social media, suffered multiple knife injuries during the attack that took place around 6 am on Friday. Her husband, Pradeep Chauhan, 42, allegedly assaulted her inside their residence before turning the weapon on himself in an apparent suicide attempt.
The incident unfolded in front of the couple’s three children, whose cries for help alerted neighbours living nearby. Residents rushed towards the house after hearing loud arguments followed by screams coming from inside the property.
“When we entered the house, Nisha Chauhan was lying on the floor covered in blood and Pradeep was also seriously injured nearby,” a local resident told police officials during preliminary questioning.
Emergency services and police teams arrived shortly afterward and shifted both to a nearby hospital. Doctors declared Nisha dead on arrival, while Pradeep remains under medical treatment for his injuries.
Investigators believe the violence may have stemmed from an escalating disagreement over a 1,170-square-foot piece of land whose registration was reportedly scheduled to take place on the same day. According to police sources, Nisha wanted the property to be registered in her name, while her husband allegedly opposed the decision. The disagreement is believed to have intensified in the hours before the attack.
During the initial investigation, police gathered evidence suggesting that the argument began inside the couple’s bedroom before turning violent. Officers suspect Pradeep dragged Nisha from the room into the hall, where he allegedly attacked her repeatedly with a knife. Investigators said injuries were also found around her neck, indicating the intensity of the assault.
The family’s children — two sons aged 17 and 16 and a 12-year-old daughter — witnessed portions of the incident and later provided statements to investigators. Police have also recorded the testimonies of neighbours and relatives as they attempt to reconstruct the sequence of events that led to the killing.
Forensic experts examined the crime scene for several hours and collected material evidence from inside the house. Investigators are also reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations to determine whether there were any movements or circumstances that may provide additional clues regarding the incident.
Nisha Chauhan was widely recognised in the locality not only as a beautician but also as an emerging digital content creator. She operated a beauty parlour and regularly uploaded short videos and lifestyle content on social media platforms. Her Instagram profile had attracted more than 24,000 followers, where she described herself as a reel creator, beautician and actor.
Her account reflected an active online presence with hundreds of videos and posts documenting everyday moments, travel clips and lifestyle content. Friends and followers expressed shock after news of her death spread online, with several users leaving condolence messages on her social media pages.
One of her recent videos showed her riding a motorcycle while another featured moments from her daily life, portraying a woman attempting to build a digital identity alongside managing family responsibilities and her business.
Pradeep Chauhan worked as an air-conditioner technician and, according to local residents, the couple had experienced disagreements in the past. However, neighbours said they never imagined the disputes would culminate in such a violent tragedy.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the growing number of domestic disputes turning fatal over property and financial disagreements in India. Experts say conflicts involving land ownership and inheritance continue to be among the most common triggers behind family violence, particularly when legal ownership and financial security become emotionally charged issues.
Police have sent Nisha’s body for post-mortem examination and are awaiting further medical updates regarding Pradeep’s condition before proceeding with additional legal action. Authorities have also sealed Nisha’s beauty parlour as part of the investigation process.
