Mahakumbh Tent City Fire : PM Modi, CM Yogi Take Immediate Action

Mahakumbh Tent City Fire: A major fire broke out in Sector 19 of the Mahakumbh Tent City on Sunday, causing shock waves through the massive congregation of devotees who have come to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh to participate in the grand religious event. The blaze reportedly was triggered by the explosion of two cooking gas cylinders, destroying 200 to 250 tents, one of which belonged to the famous Gita Press.

The fire had started around 4:30 PM and engulfed the surroundings in no time, prompting quick action from the local authorities. Akhara Police Station in-charge Bhaskar Mishra confirmed the gas cylinder explosion as the fire trigger. The district magistrate assured the public that the firefighters moved quickly, and the situation became under control in a short span of time. No one reported any injuries in the incident.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the site to assess the damage firsthand and asked authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of all devotees. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to CM Yogi to discuss the incident and oversee the relief efforts.

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said the government and health department teams are fully engaged in providing assistance. “The government is closely monitoring the situation. Immediate relief measures have been implemented, and the area is now under control,” he said.

Shared through the official social media handle for Maha Kumbh are videos showing how a thick black plume of smoke has begun arising from the impacted zone. The post reads: “Very sad! This has shocked everyone. The administration is ensuring quick relief efforts. We pray to Maa Ganga for everyone’s safety.”.

The Maha Kumbh, which started on January 13 and will go on until February 26, has already witnessed a congregation of more than 77.2 million devotees taking a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam. Devotees have remained committed to attending the religious congregation, and the authorities have further intensified safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

It has been a stark reminder of how difficult it can be to handle such a gigantic event. The relief that the administration responded quickly and no one got hurt has calmed the tempest, leaving the spirit of devotion and faith unshaken.
