Jaya Bachchan Rekha Amitabh Love Triangle: In the world of Bollywood, some stories never fade — they evolve into legends. One such tale is the emotional triangle between megastar Amitabh Bachchan, his wife Jaya Bachchan, and the enigmatic Rekha. Though decades have passed, a new revelation has reignited curiosity around this iconic love story — and it all centers on a powerful, private lunch hosted by Jaya Bachchan herself.

Jaya Bachchan Rekha Amitabh Love Triangle
In a recent episode of the “Meri Saheli” podcast, veteran film historian and author Hanif Zaveri unveiled a little-known but emotionally charged moment from the past that has fans talking once again.
The Real Story Behind Silsila
Released in 1981, Silsila was more than just a romantic drama. It starred Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, and Rekha — the very three people at the center of swirling real-life relationship rumours. Directed by Yash Chopra, the film has long been speculated to mirror their off-screen dynamics. But what happened behind the scenes was far more intense than the script itself.
According to Zaveri, Jaya Bachchan was initially opposed to being part of the film due to her strong feelings about Rekha.
“Jaya Bachchan never wanted to do Silsila. She deeply disliked Rekha,” said Zaveri.
“Amitabh Is Mine”: A Bold Statement Over Lunch
What truly shook listeners of the podcast was Zaveri’s retelling of a powerful face-to-face moment between the two women. At the peak of the Amitabh-Rekha affair rumours, Jaya took an unexpected step — she invited Rekha to lunch at her home.
It wasn’t just an act of grace — it was a moment of quiet assertion.
“She fed her well, chatted a lot, and when it was time to part ways, Jaya looked at Rekha and said, ‘Amitabh is mine. He was mine and will always be mine,’” Zaveri revealed.
That one line changed everything. It reportedly marked a turning point in Rekha’s relationship with Amitabh, prompting her to step away — with grace but finality.
A Test of Love and Loyalty
The Bachchan bond only grew stronger from there. In 1982, when Amitabh suffered a near-fatal injury on the sets of Coolie, Jaya’s unwavering care and devotion during his recovery left a lasting impact. It wasn’t just about love anymore — it was about loyalty, resilience, and a marriage that stood the test of time.
Interestingly, despite her reservations, Jaya eventually agreed to act in Silsila. Zaveri credits this to veteran actor Sanjeev Kumar, her rakhi brother, who convinced her to accept the role — on one strict condition: that she would be present on set every single day, whether or not she had scenes to shoot.
The story of Amitabh, Jaya, and Rekha isn’t just a love triangle. It’s a tale of emotions, choices, strength, and sacrifice. And now, with this powerful anecdote resurfacing, fans are once again reminded of the deeply human emotions behind Bollywood’s glitzy curtain.
