New Delhi: A tragic incident unfolded in Delhi’s Burari area on Monday evening when a newly constructed four-storey building near Oscar Public School collapsed, leaving two people dead and several others feared trapped under the debris.

Delhi Police reported the collapse around 7 PM. Emergency services-including police, fire brigade, and disaster response teams- immediately rushed to the scene. Until now, 12 people have been rescued from the rubble as rescue operations are still in full swing.

Talking to newsmen regarding the incident, a policeman says, “As many as two bodies are reportedly recovered and 12 others were rescued from beneath the rubble till so far, but it would be early to tell more precisely the people possibly still stuck down.

It is the newly constructed structure on a 200-square-yard plot. Already, questions regarding the quality of construction and if it has strictly followed safety norms have started emerging. Local residents are shocked, and some feel that the building may not have been constructed strictly according to the regulatory guidelines.

Emergency teams, with some special equipment, are searching for survivors. NDRF personnel as well as sniffer dogs are also supporting this operation. The area has been cordoned off so that no more accidents occur.

Local MLA and senior officials have visited the site to oversee the rescue efforts. Meanwhile, Delhi Police have launched an investigation into the incident, and the builder is likely to face legal action for negligence. This tragic collapse has reignited concerns over unauthorized and unsafe construction practices in the city. Residents have demanded stricter measures to ensure building safety and accountability for such incidents.
