A law graduate from Lucknow University in 1991, he began his practice as an advocate in the Allahabad High Court, specializing in civil and constitutional law. In 2011, he was appointed as an additional judge of the Allahabad High Court and became a permanent judge in 2013.

He has been elevated to the position of Chief Justice of Bombay High Court as of July 2023. This will be another hallmark in his illustrious career, an example of distinguished service to the judiciary.

With vast experience and a reputation for legal acumen, the tenure of Justice Upadhyaya as Chief Justice of Delhi High Court is expected to bring in significant contributions to the administration of justice in the capital.
