Dera Bassi accident : A family today mourned as a speeding car killed a 35-year-old man in the region. The fatal accident occurred at early hours on Tuesday when an inebriated driver speeding his car reportedly hit the man.
The victim, identified as Mohd Rafi, was walking along the roadside when the speeding vehicle hit him. He died on the spot, leaving no time for medical intervention due to the impact of the collision.
Eyewitnesses said the driver was not sober and had erratic behavior. It was not until minutes after the incident happened that people called for help. However, up until then, attempts to try to get the local authorities involved were delayed. Family members and local residents became increasingly frustrated.
Late in the day, the administration intervened and promised the full co-operation of all authorities. The authorities have started an investigation into the case and say tight action will be taken against the driver.
This tragic incident further highlights the requirement for more rigid traffic rules and control measures against drunk driving cases. The locality has demanded improvement in road safety conditions in Dera Bassi to avoid such similar tragedies in the future.
