Delhi Student Detained for Sending 23 Bomb Threat Emails to Schools Across the Capital

New Delhi: A sensational case has emerged in Delhi wherein a Class 12 student has been arrested for allegedly sending 23 bomb threat emails to schools in the city. According to the police, the student has confessed to the crime and has admitted that he had done this earlier too.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South Ankit Chauhan confirmed the development, saying, “The last 23 threat emails received by different schools in Delhi were sent by a Class 12 student. During interrogation, he admitted that he had sent threat emails earlier as well.”

The schools targeted included well-known institutions such as Delhi Public School in Vasant Vihar and RK Puram, Blue Bells, and Tagore International. The emails falsely claimed that significant quantities of explosives had been planted on the school premises, causing widespread panic and disruption.

The threatening emails, which surfaced again on Wednesday, were detailed and alarming. One of the emails reportedly read: “Your laxity in enforcing strict bag checks on students entering the school has given us the ideal opportunity to carry out our plan. Huge and very dangerous explosives have already been placed in several strategic locations on your campuses.”

The email further claimed knowledge of the schools’ examination timetables, saying that the explosive devices had been placed strategically to cause maximum disruption and fear.

It said that the student sent such emails at least six times previously and targeted other schools each time. He wanted to avoid attention so he targeted many schools together but never the one he belonged to.

According to a police official involved in the investigation, “The student composed the emails meticulously in order to make it sound authentic. He timed his email during significant exams periods.”.

The hoax bomb threats have caused much mayhem, with schools evacuating their students and carrying out comprehensive checks. Authorities are in close liaison with cybersecurity experts to trace the source of the emails to ensure that such incidents do not repeat themselves.

Parents and school administrations feel it is too easy that such hoaxes can disturb academic schedules and cause a lot of panic without any underlying reason.

The detained student is going to face lawsuits against him as a criminal intimidating act and doing cybercrime under many sections of law. The psychological and social basis of the detainee’s actions are being explored by police also.

It has been reported that no explosives could be found even during the searching process, but according to officials, the threat and seriousness of the problem cannot be minimized and should always be taken seriously.

This incident yet again has exposed the need for stronger cybersecurity and awareness among the students about how not to misuse technology. It is being strictly recommended by authorities that schools be asked to enforce more stringent security measures, with bag checks and surveillance, among other things.
