Delhi Election Date: Polling across 70 seats to be held on Feb 5, results on Feb 8: Full schedule announced

Delhi Election Date: The Election Commission of India (EC) has officially announced the schedule for the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025. In a press conference held on Tuesday, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar outlined the timeline for the electoral process. Voting across all 70 assembly constituencies in the national capital will take place on February 5, with the counting of votes and declaration of results scheduled for February 8.

The election schedule is as follows:

Gazette notification will be issued on January 10, 2025. The last date for filing nominations is January 17, 2025, followed by the scrutiny of nominations on January 18, 2025. Candidates can withdraw their nominations by January 20, 2025. Polling will be held on February 5, 2025, and the results will be declared on February 8, 2025.

Amid concerns raised by political parties regarding the functioning and security of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), the CEC provided detailed assurances about the measures undertaken to ensure transparency and fairness. Mock polling exercises are conducted before the start of voting in the presence of polling agents from all contesting parties.

EVMs are stored in strong rooms under strict CCTV surveillance, sealed in front of stakeholders from all political parties, and the seals are verified during the counting process. Additionally, randomly selected Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) are tallied with EVM results to ensure accuracy. Rajiv Kumar also cited the Supreme Court’s endorsement of EVM reliability, reinforcing public confidence in the system.

Responding to allegations of arbitrary deletion and addition of names in the electoral roll, the CEC emphasized the EC’s commitment to addressing discrepancies. The Commission has assured voters that adequate measures are in place to prevent any lapses. Concerns about delays during the voting process were also acknowledged, with steps being taken to ensure that voting remains seamless and accessible for all citizens.

With the Delhi Assembly elections approaching, the Election Commission has urged citizens to actively participate in the democratic process. Emphasizing the importance of each vote, Rajiv Kumar called upon voters to verify their names on the electoral roll and exercise their franchise on February 5.

The 2025 Delhi Assembly Elections promise to be a closely watched political event, with robust measures in place to uphold the integrity of the electoral process. As the city gears up for the polls, all eyes will be on February 8, when the results will determine the next government in the national capital.
