Bengaluru: An Air India flight bound for Delhi made an emergency landing on Sunday evening after one of its engines shut down midair, airport sources reported. All passengers and crew members were unharmed, and no untoward incident occurred during the emergency landing.
Flight AI 2820 departed from Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru at around 7 PM. Approximately an hour into the journey, the pilot detected an issue with one of the aircraft’s engines, prompting the immediate decision to return to Bengaluru for an emergency landing.
“The flight made an emergency landing safely. All passengers were unharmed, and there were no complications during the process,” a source at the airport confirmed.
According to eyewitnesses, the aircraft circled Bengaluru for some time before landing as a precautionary measure to burn excess fuel, ensuring a safe touchdown. The exact technical reasons for the engine failure are yet to be disclosed.
Air India has not released an official statement on the incident but is expected to investigate the engine malfunction thoroughly. Passengers were reportedly accommodated on alternative flights or provided necessary assistance to continue their journey.
Such incidents highlight the importance of rigorous maintenance and preparedness for emergencies in the aviation sector.
