New Delhi, February 20: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, cabinet ministers, and other top BJP leaders participated in the Yamuna aarti at Vasudev Ghat in the capital today. The elaborate ceremony, organized in the evening, was an initiative of the government towards rejuvenating and conserving the holy river.
The function witnessed the attendance of Cabinet Ministers Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh, in addition to other dignitaries and local leaders. The aarti was conducted with the conventional rituals, hymns, and the lighting of lamps, thus generating a spiritual and peaceful environment at the ghat.
Addressing the event, CM Rekha Gupta again asserted her government’s commitment towards cleaning and rejuvenating Yamuna River. “Today, when we were doing the aarti of Maa Yamuna, we kept our promise in our mind that we will clean the river. We will deploy the resources we need, and it will be a priority,” she said. Earlier in the day, cleanliness drive was undertaken near and around the river by Vasudev Ghat as a part of initiative for restoring its purity.

Vasudev Ghat
Vasudev Ghat is at Kashmere Gate, between Yamuna Ghat and Nigam Bodh Ghat, on the Yamuna River’s western banks. Built by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), it was opened in March 2024 by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. The location was previously out of bounds due to steep trash-laden slopes and dense silt deposits that were as deep as 1.5 feet.
With widespread restoration works, the ghat has been revitalized into a beautiful and religious icon. The riverbank is now lined with chiseled pavilions, verdant cover, and a collection of 2,000 indigenous and naturalized trees. Further, 400,000 river grass seedlings and seasonally flowered beds of marigold, tulips, and sadabahar have been installed to beautify it and contribute to its environmental and aesthetic worth.
Yamuna aarti at Vasudev Ghat is an important move towards encouraging river conservation and rediscovering the cultural heritage of the city. Delhi government, through CM Rekha Gupta, seeks to persist with its mission for a cleaner, healthier Yamuna River for the generations to come.
