Several schools in Chandigarh were thrown into panic on Thursday morning after receiving bomb threat emails, prompting immediate evacuations and a swift response from security agencies across the city.

The targeted institutions included Saupin’s School in Sector 32, St Soldier International School in Sector 45, St John’s School in Sector 26, Ryan International School in Sector 49, Shivalik Public School in Sector 41, Vivek High School in Sector 38, and Delhi Public School in Sector 40, among others. As soon as the emails were flagged by school authorities, students were moved out of classrooms and gathered in open areas as a precautionary measure.
Police teams, along with bomb detection and disposal squads and dog units, rushed to the schools and began intensive search operations. Fire tenders and ambulances were also deployed to ensure emergency support was available on the spot. After thorough checks of buildings and surrounding areas, no suspicious object or explosive material was found at any location, and all premises were declared safe.
This is not the first time schools in the city have been targeted with such threatening emails. Similar incidents were reported earlier this month, affecting multiple educational institutions, while in January, panic spread across nearly two dozen schools after coordinated threat messages were received. In all previous cases, investigations later confirmed the alerts were hoaxes.
Officials said the repeated nature of such emails has raised serious concern among security agencies, which now suspect a coordinated attempt to spread fear and disrupt normal academic activity. Cybercrime teams have been deployed to trace the origin of the messages and identify the individuals or groups behind them.
The situation comes at a time when security forces in the region are already on high alert following recent incidents, including a grenade attack at a political office in Chandigarh. Although no link has been established between these incidents and the school threats, authorities are treating every alert with full seriousness.
