Tragedy in Delhi: 4 Dead, 18 Rescued as Building Collapses in Mustafabad During Early Morning Hours

Building Collapses in Mustafabad: In a tragic turn of events early Saturday morning, a four-storey building collapsed in Delhi’s Mustafabad area, leading to the death of four individuals while several others remain trapped under the debris. The incident occurred around 2:30 AM, reportedly following heavy rains and a dust storm that swept through the national capital on the night between Friday and Saturday.

Over 30 People Feared Trapped, Rescue Ops Continue

According to officials, more than 30 people were feared to be inside the building at the time of the collapse. So far, 18 people have been rescued, with 14 of them hospitalized for injuries. Authorities fear that 8 to 10 people are still trapped beneath the rubble.

Additional DCP of North-East Delhi, Sandeep Lama, confirmed that the rescue operation is ongoing and involves personnel from the Delhi Fire Service, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Delhi Police.

“The call came in during the early morning hours. Rescue operations began immediately with the help of two NDRF teams. So far, 18 people have been pulled out, and unfortunately, four have lost their lives,” said Lama.

Eyewitnesses Describe the Horror

An eyewitness told PTI, “It happened so suddenly around 2:30 am. The entire building came down. People said there was some construction going on on the lower floors, which might have weakened the structure, but that’s not confirmed. I personally helped a young girl escape from the debris — thankfully, she survived.”

Video Footage Captures the Collapse

CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced online, capturing the horrifying moment the building crumbled. Videos from the scene show intense rescue efforts amid the debris, with emergency lights flashing and teams working tirelessly to find survivors.

Fire Department Speaks Out

Rajendra Atwal, Divisional Fire Officer, said, “We got the call at 2:50 AM. Upon arrival, we saw the building had completely collapsed. Multiple rescue teams are still working to save those trapped.”

Recent Similar Incident Raises Safety Concerns

This collapse follows a similar incident just last week (April 11), when a wall of an under-construction building in Madhu Vihar collapsed during a dust storm, killing one and injuring two others.

Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable buildings to remain alert, especially during unpredictable weather conditions.
