The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled its Gonda district president, Amar Kishore Kashyap, following the circulation of two controversial videos showing him with a woman inside the party office premises. The expulsion was executed after Kashyap failed to provide a satisfactory explanation in response to a show-cause notice issued by the party.
According to party sources, the videos, which surfaced on social media, were reportedly recorded on April 12 and quickly gained traction online. In the footage, Amar Kishore Kashyap can be seen hugging a woman near the staircase of the BJP district office. In another clip, a four-wheeler enters the premises, from which the district president steps out, followed by a woman. Kashyap is then seen directing her inside the office.
Although the authenticity of the videos could not be independently verified, they raised serious concerns within the party ranks. In response, the BJP issued a formal notice to Amar Kishore Kashyap, demanding a detailed clarification within seven days. However, his reply was deemed unsatisfactory.
Uttar Pradesh BJP General Secretary Govind Narayan Shukla issued an official letter stating that Amar Kishore Kashyap’s conduct amounted to gross indiscipline and tarnished the image of the party. Acting on the directions of state BJP president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary, the party decided to expel Amar Kishore Kashyap with immediate effect.
Amar Kishore Kashyap, in his defense, claimed the video was being misrepresented by his political opponents. He said the woman in question was an active member of the party who had momentarily lost balance, and he was merely offering support. He alleged that the footage had been selectively edited and circulated with malicious intent.
In a separate development, the woman seen in the video filed a police complaint after the clip went viral. She stated that the unauthorized circulation of the footage had caused immense harm to her dignity and reputation. Following her complaint, a case was registered against unidentified individuals.
The controversy and subsequent disciplinary action highlight the BJP’s strict stand on maintaining internal discipline and safeguarding its public image. The party’s swift decision to remove Kashyap is being viewed as a message that indiscipline and behavior that could damage the party’s credibility will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
