Srinagar, April 24 – In the aftermath of the heart-wrenching terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 25 Indian tourists and one Nepali citizen, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi is set to arrive in Srinagar today for a high-level security review. The visit comes at a crucial time when tensions are flaring in Jammu and Kashmir, and ceasefire violations by the Pakistan Army are being closely monitored.

What Happened in Pahalgam?

On April 22, peaceful meadows of Baisaran in Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in South Kashmir, turned into a site of horror when heavily armed terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists. The cowardly attack not only left 26 people dead, including a Nepali national, but also injured dozens more, sending shockwaves across the country.

The assault, reportedly orchestrated by Pakistan-backed terror outfits, has triggered massive public outrage and an urgent response from Indian defence and diplomatic channels.

General Upendra Dwivedi’s Mission in Kashmir

According to official sources from the Ministry of Defence, General Upendra Dwivedi will first land in Srinagar before proceeding to Udhampur, where he will hold closed-door meetings with top Army commanders and multi-agency security officials.

“The Army Chief will conduct a detailed review of the security situation in the Kashmir Valley, including infiltration attempts and ceasefire violations along the Line of Control,” defence officials stated.

General Dwivedi’s presence in the valley signals the gravity of the situation and the Indian Army’s intent to deliver a strong message both domestically and internationally.

India Strikes Back with Strong Diplomatic Measures

In response to the Pahalgam tragedy, the Central Government has rolled out a series of aggressive diplomatic measures:

  • Closure of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari with immediate effect.
  • Suspension of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals, giving them just 40 hours to exit India.
  • Reduction of diplomatic staff: Both nations will withdraw Defence, Naval, and Air Advisors from each other’s High Commissions.
  • Indus Waters Treaty suspended – a historic treaty signed in 1960, now on hold following this brutal attack.

“The Defence and Service Advisors in the Pakistani High Commission are now Persona Non Grata. They have one week to leave the country,” said Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.

Nationwide Outrage and Calls for Justice

The country is in mourning and fury. From Delhi to Chennai, and Srinagar to Mumbai, citizens have taken to the streets, demanding uncompromising action against Pakistan and those involved in the heinous crime.

Social media platforms are flooded with hashtags like #JusticeForPahalgamVictims, #IndiaUnited, and #StopTerrorFromPakistan, while security forces are on high alert across the border regions.

What’s Next?

The security review led by Upendra Dwivedi is expected to pave the way for a comprehensive counter-terrorism strategy and heightened troop deployment in sensitive zones across Jammu and Kashmir.

While the world watches closely, India stands united in grief, resilience, and rage — determined to ensure that the blood of innocent lives lost in Pahalgam does not go in vain.
