Mahakumbh Mela 2025: Amit Shah Takes Holy Dip at Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, for the first time, performed a holy dip at Triveni Sangam as Mahakumbh Mela 2025 is ongoing in Prayagraj. Accompanying him were Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev, and many revered seers. The ritual was done amid Vedic mantras where worship of the Sun God, meaning divine blessings, took place.

Before the tour, Amit Shah tweeted on X (formerly known as Twitter). He wrote : “Kumbh has been a lone symbol of free flow of Sanatan culture and life philosophy with harmony. Wish to take this holy dip and seek blessings by saints in that great festival where unity and integrity combine.”

The Mahakumbh, held every 12 years, is an iconic celebration of Sanatan Dharma, attracting devotees from across the globe. This year’s Mahakumbh has been remarkable, with the Uttar Pradesh government reporting over 13 crore devotees taking a holy dip in the first 16 days. On the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti alone, 3.5 crore devotees, including saints and Shankaracharyas from all four Peeths, participated in the sacred Amrit Snan.

It was for the first time ever in Mahakumbh, when all Shankaracharyas of all four Peeths—Jyotir, Dwarka, Govardhan and Sringeri—attended it. This signifies unity and a sacred nature of an event.

Amit Shah visited Prayagraj and had important interactions with saints and seers at the Juna Akhada, where he also shared a meal with them. His visit highlighted the cultural and spiritual importance of the Mahakumbh, which he described as a “festival of unity and integrity.”

The ritual at the Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers—is believed to absolve sins and grant moksha (liberation). It continues to draw millions of pilgrims, making it one of the world’s largest religious gatherings.

The Uttar Pradesh state government led by Chief Minister CM Yogi Adityanath has already planned the logistics required for successful operation of the Mahakumbh to be held between 13th Jan. to Feb 26, having inbuilt strong crowd management mechanisms, efficient sanitation and beefing up of its security to suit record numbers visiting at one and same time.

The Mahakumbh is not only a spiritual event but also a confluence of diverse cultures and traditions that celebrate the ethos of Sanatan Dharma. The participation of dignitaries, saints, and millions of devotees reiterates its status as a global symbol of faith and unity.

As Mahakumbh advances, Prayagraj remains a beacon of devotion that attracts millions towards enlightenment by creating harmony in diversity.
