The dramatic chase to track down the killers of Ghazipur businessman’s son Vineet Rai came to a significant turning point after Kamlesh Bind, one of the key accused in the sensational murder case, was killed in a police encounter. Police officials confirmed that Kamlesh Bind sustained critical injuries during the exchange of fire. He was immediately rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital, where doctors later declared him dead. The encounter marks one of the most important developments in the investigation that has remained in the spotlight since the killing of Vineet Rai.

The murder took place late on a Friday night outside Bindu Hotel, a well-known establishment in Ghazipur owned by Vineet Rai’s family. According to investigators, Vineet had finished dinner at the hotel and was preparing to return home on his Bullet motorcycle when armed assailants allegedly linked to the Katra Gang ambushed him near the hotel gate.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots. Police later confirmed that the attackers fired five rounds at close range. The assault was swift and calculated, leaving little chance for the victim to escape. The brutal nature of the killing sent shockwaves through the city, with traders, residents, and local business groups demanding immediate arrests and strict action against those responsible.

As investigators pieced together evidence and witness statements, the focus quickly shifted toward members of the Katra Gang, a criminal network believed to be involved in several serious offences in the region. An FIR was registered naming gang leader Shankar Pandey, Jagdish Singh Yadav alias Sonu Yadav, Alok Dubey, and Kamlesh Chaudhary alias Kamlesh Bind, along with several unidentified individuals.

The Uttar Pradesh Police launched an intensive operation to locate the accused. Teams from multiple districts, along with the Special Task Force (STF), were deployed to track their movements. Raids were conducted at suspected hideouts, and intelligence networks were activated to gather information about the fugitives.

Given the seriousness of the case and the public pressure surrounding the investigation, authorities announced cash rewards on the accused. Initially, the Varanasi Range DIG declared a reward of ₹50,000 each on the named suspects. As Kamlesh Bind continued to evade arrest, the reward on him was increased to ₹1 lakh, reflecting his status as one of the most wanted men in the case.

Sources familiar with the investigation said law enforcement agencies had been monitoring several leads in recent weeks. The operation eventually culminated in an encounter during which police claimed Bind opened fire while attempting to escape. Security personnel retaliated, resulting in the shootout that ended with his death.

While police have achieved a major breakthrough, officials insist that the investigation is far from over. Several accused named in the FIR remain at large, and efforts are underway to trace their whereabouts. Investigators are also working to establish the complete sequence of events that led to Vineet Rai’s killing and determine whether additional individuals were involved in planning or facilitating the crime.
