Marital Dispute in Hassan: Husband Alleges Continuous Harassment Over Property Issues

A marital dispute in Arakalagudu town of Karnataka’s Hassan district has drawn significant public attention after a husband accused his wife of persistent harassment over property-related issues.

Shashikumar, who married Arpitha in a love marriage, says the first two years of their relationship were peaceful and fulfilling. According to him, their life together took a sharp turn after Arpitha visited her parental home. He claims that following discussions with her parents, she began insisting that the couple move out and establish a separate household away from his family.

Speaking about the dispute, Shashikumar said he made it clear that he wanted to care for both his wife and his aging parents. However, he alleges that Arpitha remained firm in her demand to live separately. When he refused, he claims she shifted her demand to constructing a room on the upper floor of their existing home. Due to financial constraints, he said he was unable to begin construction immediately, but he alleges that Arpitha pressured him to take a loan and proceed with building a small room.

The dispute, he claims, gradually escalated beyond household disagreements. Shashikumar alleges that his wife began threatening him and his family, claiming she had connections with senior officials, including contacts in the Superintendent of Police’s office and in Bengaluru. He further alleges that she warned him that she could send him and his entire family to jail and drag them into prolonged legal battles. He also claims that she mentally harassed him by threatening to write a “death note,” which he describes as an attempt to intimidate and pressure him.

According to Shashikumar, the matter has reached the local police station multiple times and is currently being heard in court. He says that while Arpitha agrees in court to reconcile and return home, conflicts resume soon after. He further alleges that she verbally abused his parents and sisters during heated arguments and once attempted to hit his mother with a slipper. He claims that during one such altercation, she created a public scene and even called journalists.

Shashikumar maintains that these incidents are deliberate and part of what he describes as an effort to extract money and claim property. He says he possesses video and audio recordings that, according to him, capture threats, abusive language, and instances of harassment. He has expressed willingness to present this material before the court as evidence.

As the case continues through legal channels, the dispute has sparked discussion in the local community about the growing number of marital conflicts involving property and family arrangements. With allegations and counter-allegations yet to be legally established, the matter now rests with the authorities and the court to determine the facts.
