A potentially dangerous forest fire near Basugaon along the Gyansu–Sald Road in Uttarakhand was swiftly brought under control late on the night of May 20, thanks to the coordinated efforts of multiple emergency response teams.
The alert was received by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Uttarakhand, which immediately swung into action to prevent the situation from escalating.
SDRF reaches the spot within minutes
Acting without delay, the SDRF team stationed at Post Ujeli, led by Head Constable Durgesh Ratudi, rushed to the affected area carrying essential firefighting equipment.
Upon reaching the site, the team found the forest fire spreading rapidly due to dry conditions and wind patterns, raising serious concerns about its possible expansion toward nearby residential zones.
Joint operation with Forest Department, Fire Service, and NDRF
Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, SDRF personnel coordinated closely with the Forest Department, Fire Service, and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
All agencies worked together in a structured and focused firefighting operation. Fire lines were created, dry vegetation was cleared where possible, and continuous water and suppression efforts were carried out to contain the flames.
Officials on the ground ensured constant communication between teams, allowing quick decision-making and efficient deployment of resources.
Fire contained before it reached villages
After several hours of sustained effort, the teams successfully brought the forest fire under control. Most importantly, they managed to stop it from spreading toward nearby residential areas, preventing what could have turned into a major disaster.
