A tragic road accident claimed the lives of three members of a family in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district on Saturday evening when a speeding Audi car rammed into their motorcycle while they were out distributing wedding invitation cards, police said.
The incident took place near Kosta village under the limits of Raipur Karchuliyan police station, around eight kilometres from Rewa city. The victims were travelling together on a single motorcycle to invite relatives and acquaintances for an upcoming wedding in the family.
Among those killed were Bhagwat Vishwakarma and his younger son Rahul. According to police, Bhagwat’s elder son was scheduled to get married on February 24, and the family had been making final preparations for the ceremony. Another close relative riding with them also lost his life in the crash.
Police said the Audi car was coming from the Raipur Karchuliyan side at a very high speed when it struck the motorcycle with tremendous force. The impact was so severe that the two-wheeler was completely crushed, killing all three riders on the spot.
“The speed of the car appears to be extremely high. The collision left no chance of survival for the victims,” said Vijay Singh, the station house officer of Raipur Karchuliyan police station.
Soon after the accident, police reached the spot and took the Audi driver into custody. The damaged vehicle was seized, and the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the crash, including possible negligence or rash driving.
The incident has sparked renewed concern among locals over reckless driving and overspeeding on highways in the Rewa region. Residents have urged authorities to strengthen traffic enforcement and monitoring to prevent such fatal accidents, especially involving high-speed vehicles.
The tragedy has left the victim’s family and the local community in deep shock, as a house that was preparing for wedding celebrations is now mourning an irreparable loss.
