Supreme Court to Hear Ranveer Allahbadia’s Plea for Passport Return

New Delhi, April 21, 2025 – The Supreme Court on Monday confirmed that the investigation against popular podcaster and content creator Ranveer Allahbadia, famously known as BeerBiceps, has been completed. The court has now scheduled April 28 to hear his plea for the return of his passport, which was submitted as part of an interim bail condition in a case involving controversial remarks made on a YouTube comedy show.

Background of the Case

Allahbadia, a well-known internet personality with a massive following on YouTube and other platforms, was booked under multiple FIRs following his appearance on the YouTube show “India’s Got Latent”, hosted by stand-up comic Samay Raina. During the episode, Allahbadia made remarks regarding parents and sex, which sparked outrage across several states, particularly Assam and Maharashtra.

The remarks were described by the Supreme Court as “vulgar” and reflective of a “dirty mind”, suggesting that they brought shame to societal values. In response, the top court on February 18 granted him interim protection from arrest but directed Allahbadia to submit his passport to the Nodal Cyber Police Station in Thane, Maharashtra.

Latest Court Developments

A bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice N Kotiswar Singh noted that the investigation related to the Mumbai FIR is complete, although a chargesheet is yet to be filed. The court was informed by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing on behalf of Assam and Maharashtra police, that only the statement of one co-accused remains to be recorded in the Guwahati FIR.

Based on this, the bench recorded that the overall probe is complete, clearing the way to hear Allahbadia’s request for passport return on April 28.

Conditional Resumption of Podcast

Previously, on March 3, the Supreme Court granted Allahbadia permission to resume his popular podcast “The Ranveer Show”, but with strict instructions to maintain morality, decency, and ensure that the content is appropriate for all age groups. This came after the court had earlier restrained him from airing any new episodes that could influence the outcome of the ongoing cases.

Others Involved

Along with Allahbadia and Samay Raina, the FIR in Assam also names fellow comedians Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija for their alleged involvement in the controversial episode.

What’s Next?

The April 28 hearing will determine whether Allahbadia can regain possession of his passport, which is crucial for his professional commitments and international travel. Legal experts believe that the completion of the investigation strengthens his case.
