Rahul Gandhi Parliament Speech Today: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-led NDA government during the discussion on the motion of thanks on the President’s address in the Lok Sabha. His comments, especially on the China border issue and India’s economic policies, led to a huge uproar in Parliament.

Rahul Gandhi’s claims on China and economic policies

Gandhi accused the Modi government of failing to protect India’s territorial integrity and alleged that the Chinese army has occupied Indian land despite the Prime Minister’s denial.

“Our armed forces are still in talks with China about their intrusion. The Prime Minister has denied it, but our Army Chief has said that the Chinese have entered our territory,” Gandhi claimed. He further alleged that China has occupied 4,000 square kilometres of Indian land and linked it to India’s economic dependence on China.

“China is sitting in this country because ‘Make in India‘ has failed. If we ever have to fight China, we will use their motors, batteries and optics,” Gandhi said, stressing the need to strengthen India’s manufacturing sector.

‘Make in India’ has failed, says Rahul

Gandhi agreed that the “Make in India” initiative proposed by Modi was ideologically correct but failed to succeed in practice. “The contribution of manufacturing to GDP has declined from 15.3% to 12.6%,” he argued. He put it very eloquently: There cannot be a more sustainable way to create jobs, address deficits and inequalities than by shifting focus from consumption to production.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and several BJP MPs objected to Gandhi’s economic claims, but he stood firm and warned that India’s economic dependence on China could have dire consequences in the future.

Call for caste census and electoral transparency

Rahul Gandhi again urged a caste census, stressing that Dalits, Adivasis and OBCs are underrepresented in economic and political power structures. “OBCs make up 50% of the population, but you have no real power,” he told BJP’s OBC leaders.

He also raised the issue of electoral integrity, referring to the sudden inclusion of 70 lakh voters in Maharashtra’s electoral rolls between the Lok Sabha and assembly elections. He also demanded that the panel that selects the Chief Election Commissioner should remove the Chief Election Commissioner of India’s Chief Minister. He also questioned the removal of the judge, which he claimed compromised the fairness of the elections.

Trump’s invitation claim and Jaishankar’s denial

Gandhi took a dig at India’s foreign policy and claimed that External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had visited the US and invited PM Modi to attend an event hosted by former President Donald Trump. “If India had a strong industrial base, the US President would have come here,” he claimed.

Jaishankar promptly refuted Gandhi’s claim and called it a “lie” that damaged India’s global reputation. “I went to meet the US Secretary of State and NSA in December 2024. At no level was inviting PM Modi discussed,” Jaishankar posted on X (formerly Twitter). He accused Gandhi of spreading misinformation for political gain at the cost of national interests.

BJP refutes Rahul’s allegations

BJP leaders called Gandhi’s comments baseless, with Kiren Rijiju saying Prime Minister Modi himself comes from an OBC background. The government also said India’s manufacturing sector is progressing and refuted allegations of Chinese occupation of Indian land.

Conclusion

Rahul Gandhi’s fiery speech in Parliament reignited debates on economic policies, electoral transparency and India’s foreign relations. While his allegations have energised the opposition camp, the BJP has strongly refuted them, setting the stage for a heated political battle in the days to come.
