Rahul Gandhi Alleges Election Commission Is ‘Compromised’ During Boston Address; BJP Slams Remarks

Rahul Gandhi Alleges Election Commission

Boston, April 21, 2025,Rahul Gandhi Alleges Election Commission — Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has once again sparked a political storm, this time on international soil. While addressing a gathering in Boston as part of his U.S. visit, Gandhi raised serious concerns about the transparency of the Election Commission of India (ECI), claiming that the poll body has been “compromised.”

“Something Very Wrong With The System”: Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi Boston speech: During his speech, Rahul Gandhi highlighted discrepancies in voter data from the Maharashtra elections. According to him, the number of voters who cast their votes allegedly exceeded the actual population of the state—a claim that has raised eyebrows.

“More people voted in Maharashtra than the total number of people in Maharashtra, and this is a fact,” Gandhi said.
“The Election Commission gave us a figure around 5:30 pm, and by 7:30 pm, an additional 65 lakh voters were recorded. That’s physically impossible,” he added, as quoted by ANI.

Gandhi further stated that these inconsistencies make it “very clear” that the Election Commission has been compromised and that there’s “something very wrong with the system.”

BJP Hits Back: “Rahul Gandhi Defames India Abroad”

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was quick to retaliate, accusing the Congress leader of once again tarnishing India’s global image. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla issued a strong statement, calling Gandhi’s remarks “anti-national.”

“Rahul Gandhi’s identity is to humiliate Indian organisations and institutions on foreign soil,” said Poonawalla.
“While Prime Minister Modi is working tirelessly to position India as a global power, Rahul Gandhi is busy defaming our democracy, Constitution, judiciary, and now even the Election Commission.”

The BJP claimed that Gandhi’s comments were not just against the ruling government but against the democratic structure of the country itself.

Not The First Time

This isn’t the first time Rahul Gandhi has criticized the Election Commission. Since the declaration of the Maharashtra Assembly poll results, the Congress MP has repeatedly questioned the ECI’s integrity and data accuracy. His latest remarks come amidst a politically sensitive time, with the nation gearing up for future state elections.

Rahul Gandhi’s U.S. Visit Continues

Gandhi is currently on a multi-city tour in the United States where he is expected to meet civil society leaders, university students, and policy makers. His speech in Boston marks one of the first major public appearances during the visit.

Rahul Gandhi’s comments have once again brought the focus on electoral transparency in India. While the Congress party demands accountability from the Election Commission, the BJP maintains that such remarks damage India’s international reputation. As political temperatures rise, all eyes are now on the Election Commission and how it responds to the allegations.
