Mohali, April 15: Senior Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa walked out of the Mohali Cyber Crime Police Station late Tuesday night after being questioned for over five hours in connection with his controversial “50 bombs in Punjab” remark. Despite the ongoing legal heat, Bajwa asserted that he would continue to stand for the people of Punjab and speak up fearlessly.

The Punjab Police had summoned Bajwa after an FIR was filed against him for allegedly spreading false and alarming information. The case was registered under Sections 197(1)(d) and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, pertaining to spreading false information that could threaten national unity and create public unrest.
Congress Shows Strength: Party Stages Protest Outside Police Station
Partap Singh Bajwa arrived at the Cyber Crime Police Station Phase-7, accompanied by top Congress leaders including Amarinder Raja Warring, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Pargat Singh, and Rana Gurjeet Singh. As he went inside, Congress workers staged a protest outside the premises, chanting slogans against the AAP-led Punjab government.
Congress state president Warring said, “This isn’t just Bajwa’s battle, but the voice of the entire Punjab Congress. We are ready to stay here all night to oppose CM Bhagwant Mann’s authoritarian actions.”
AAP Demands Arrest, Partap Singh Bajwa Moves High Court
While the Congress was rallying behind Bajwa, the AAP state leadership, including Aman Arora, organized a protest in Phase 2, Mohali, demanding Bajwa’s immediate arrest.
In a parallel move, Bajwa filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking the quashing of the FIR against him. Senior Advocate APS Deol, representing Bajwa, termed the charges “baseless” and politically motivated. The matter is listed for hearing on Wednesday.
The Controversial Statement That Sparked It All
In a recent interview with a private news channel, Bajwa had said, “I have come to know that 50 bombs have reached Punjab. Of these, 18 have already exploded, and 32 are yet to go off.” His remarks stirred political tension and prompted the state police to take immediate action.
On Sunday, a police team had visited Partap Singh Bajwa’s residence to question him regarding the source of this alarming claim. Though summoned to appear on Monday, Bajwa cited late receipt of the notice and confirmed via X (formerly Twitter) that he would appear on Tuesday instead.
Political Temperatures Rising Ahead of Elections
This incident has added to the already surging political heat in Punjab ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. While the Congress accuses the AAP government of stifling free speech, AAP claims such statements can endanger peace in the region.
Despite the legal hurdles and police scrutiny, Bajwa remains undeterred, making it clear that he intends to keep speaking up for the people of Punjab.
