Tractor March : The protest by farmers has reached a boiling point as the clash between farmers and authorities worsens. Sarwan Singh Pandher, a key leader of the farmers, unveiled new strategies for the protest after a ‘Jathha’ of 101 farmers was stopped by the police at the Shambhu border. Even after the police assured them of holding a peaceful march to Delhi, they used force against them citing security reasons and stopped their entry, escalating the situation further.
Sarwan Singh Pandher condemned the government’s actions and said that it was suppressing the democratic right to protest. He declared a tractor march outside Punjab on December 16 and a ‘Rail Roko’ campaign across Punjab on December 18. He appealed to the people of Punjab to join these initiatives in large numbers, emphasizing that such measures were necessary as the government continued to disregard their demands and suppress their voices.
The farmer activists, while narrating incidents along the Shambhu border, said the police sprayed water cannons and lobbed tear gas shells, which felt like bomb-like explosions. He said that during this clash, 17 farmers were injured; many are in critical condition, with no proper treatment available for them. He called the Punjab government to treat these hurt farmers properly.
Sarwan Singh Pandher To Hold Tractor March Outside Punjab Today
Pandher criticized the government for its apathy and said such force was unjustifiable against a peaceful group of 101 farmers. He expressed his disappointment with opposition leaders, especially Rahul Gandhi, who could not raise the issue in Parliament. According to Pandher, the opposition needs to do more than make statements; they need to take up the issues of farmers with more intensity than other issues they raise.
However, the difficulties couldn’t dampen Pandher’s spirit; he reassured and demanded that all the Punjabi people join hands together in the fight for Punjab’s farmers. With their strength building day by day, the government is forced to attract maximum public concern in such protest rallies toward initiating genuine talks with them to heal their decades-old wounds.
