Pakistan Violates Ceasefire: Barely hours after India and Pakistan agreed to a full ceasefire across borders, tensions reignited as a brief exchange of fire broke out late Saturday night at the Nagrota military base in Jammu. One Indian Army sentry sustained minor injuries during the firing incident, confirming fresh ceasefire violations by Pakistan.

The clash comes as a stark reminder of the fragile nature of peace between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. The injured soldier was promptly attended to and is currently stable, military sources confirmed.
Night of Chaos: Explosions and Blackouts
Even as the ceasefire agreement took effect from 5 PM on Saturday, reports of explosions and aerial projectiles came flooding in from multiple regions. Loud gunfire and several blasts were heard in Srinagar, while Jammu city residents reported seeing suspicious lights and fireballs in the sky—believed to be shells or drones.
Adding to the panic, Udhampur plunged into complete darkness for the third consecutive night. Similar power outages were reported in key northern cities and towns including Pathankot, Moga, Ferozepur, Patiala, and even the Vaishno Devi temple area. Rajasthan’s Barmer also heard air raid sirens, fueling fears of a larger escalation.
Ceasefire in Question
The renewed hostilities mark a worrying contradiction to the joint agreement announced earlier in the day. India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that both countries had agreed to suspend “all forms of military operations—on land and in air—effective 5 PM, May 10.” However, the ground reality has painted a different picture, with shelling reportedly heard in Akhnoor, Udhampur, and other forward areas.
Misri also pointed out that the latest escalation can be traced back to the April 22 Pahalgam attacks, which killed 26 people—mostly tourists—and triggered retaliatory responses.
China and the Global Response
Meanwhile, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi reiterated Beijing’s support for Pakistan, pledging to stand by its “sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national independence.” The statement adds a geopolitical undertone to the current tensions, suggesting that international interests may influence peace prospects in the region.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump also weighed in on the situation, posting on X (formerly Twitter), “India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE.” His comments, though optimistic, now appear premature in light of the unfolding events.
What Is a Ceasefire, Really?
In military parlance, a ceasefire is an agreement between conflicting sides to halt aggressive actions, often as a step toward broader peace negotiations. These are sometimes brokered by a third party and intended to de-escalate hostilities. However, such agreements rely heavily on mutual trust and strict compliance—something that remains elusive in the India-Pakistan context.
The Road Ahead
While official channels remain silent on any retaliation or further escalation, sources within the Indian defense establishment suggest that the situation is being closely monitored. Additional troops have reportedly been put on high alert in border areas.
For now, the ceasefire exists more on paper than on the ground. The coming days will be critical in determining whether the two nations can truly pull back from the brink—or if the fragile peace will crumble under the weight of mistrust and provocations.
