Bengaluru Techie Atul Subhash’s Suicide Case : In a major development related to the suicide case of techie Atul Subhash from Bengaluru, all three family members Nikita Singhania, along with her mother Nisha, and brother Anurag, have been arrested, based on charges of abetment to suicide mentioned in Atul’s extensive 24-page suicide note and video.
Nikita Singhania was arrested from Haryana
Atul Subhash, the 34-year-old native of Samastipur, Bihar, was found dead on Monday in his apartment Munnekollal, in Bengaluru. The post-mortem note found his suicide accused his wife’s family of harassment and loot, stating these were causes for taking his life and he wrote on each of the pages “justice is due”.
The Bengaluru police launched an investigation into the case, which led to the arrest of Nikita from Gurugram, Haryana, and her mother and brother from Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. The accused were produced before a local court and have been sent to judicial custody.
Atul’s brother Bikas Kumar filed a complaint with the police against Nikita, her mother Nisha, brother Anurag, and uncle Sushil Singhania, who he accused of abetting his sister’s suicide. This led Bengaluru Police to ask Uttar Pradesh Police to find the accused.
Atul Subhash had been mired in a bitter legal fight with Nikita over divorce and custody of their son. He alleged that Nikita’s family demanded ₹3 crore to withdraw cases against him and an additional ₹30 lakh for visitation rights to see his son.
Nikita had filed a complaint in 2022 against Atul accusing him of harassment and assault for dowry. She further stated that the harassment and assault by Atul to her caused much discomfort to her family, and the discomfort led to her father’s stroke and subsequent death.
They declare to be innocent, saying they have been wrongly implicated in this case. They had approached for anticipatory bail before which the investigation was still ongoing. Nikita’s relatives claim that relentless harassment of Atul by Nikita and her family members finally broke him.
Atul’s father, who appeared broken after losing his child, said, “He was broken from inside.”
Atul and Nikita got married in 2019 after matching on a matrimonial platform. They had a son in 2020, but their marriage soon turned sour, leading to a string of legal battles.
The arrests are a crucial juncture in the investigation as the Bengaluru Police are looking to establish the circumstances that led to Atul’s untimely death.
This tragic incident has again brought to the fore the horrific effects of marital disputes and harassment left unresolved, calling for justice for Atul Subhash.
