Prayagraj, January 21 – The MahaKumbh Mela, considered one of the world’s largest religious congregations, continues to attract millions of devotees to Prayagraj. The festival started on January 13 and will conclude on February 26. With four major Shahi Snan days still left, footfalls of devotees may rise.
According to reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Mahakumbh Mela on February 5. This event is expected to attract a lot of attention and crowds because devotees are gathered at the Triveni Sangam, where the holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati meet.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be the one to start such high-profile presence by visiting Mela on 27 January. During this visit, the holy dip would be taken in Sangam besides Ganga Puja and meetings would be held with local officials during his visit. In anticipation, security agencies heightened vigilance due to special vigil at key intersection and event places across Prayagraj city.
In another addition to the list of VIPs, the Vice President, Jagdeep Dhankhar is likely to take part in the celebrations on 1st of February along with taking the holy dip in the Sangam. Meanwhile, Indian President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to visit Prayagraj on February 10 and will grace major events on her visit here.
Earlier today, in dense fog, pilgrims demonstrated their faith, braving the unforgiving conditions to join the Mahakumbh Mela that is ongoing. The turnout has not weakened despite weather conditions, as millions have come each day.
According to government figures in Uttar Pradesh, more than 1.597 million pilgrims have so far taken the holy dip at Triveni Sangam during the ninth day of the Mela. The cumulative number of pilgrims who have performed the ritual has exceeded an extraordinary figure: 88.1 million have performed the ritual, and they took a dip in the sacred confluence so far.
Given this level of prominent participation combined with the emotional fervor that’s sweeping across the region, Mahakumbh Mela 2025 can become one of the most significant events in recent history for millions of devotees from all over India and the world.
