Siachen Braveheart Naib Subedar Baldev Singh Dies in Line of Duty, Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi Pays Heartfelt Tribute

Siachen Glacier: In an emotional farewell filled with honor and brotherhood, the Indian Army bid adieu to Naib Subedar Baldev Singh, a braveheart who lost his life while serving at the world’s highest battlefield — Siachen Glacier. Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi personally paid tribute to his fallen comrade, making the farewell not just ceremonial, but deeply personal and heartfelt.

Naib Subedar Baldev Singh Die

Naib Subedar Baldev Singh, a soldier of the 18th Battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles (18 JAK RIF), passed away on duty yesterday. His mortal remains were honored at the Shraddhanjali Sthal, Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt, where General Dwivedi laid a wreath in a solemn and emotional moment.

A Bond Forged in Battle

Baldev Singh was not just another soldier in the battalion—he was handpicked by then-Colonel Upendra Dwivedi in 2003, during Operation Rakshak in Kashmir Valley. The two first came in contact when General Dwivedi was commanding the battalion, and recognizing Singh’s dedication and potential, he assigned him specialist duties in the unit’s signal platoon.

Being a part of the signals platoon — the nerve center of all communications — Baldev Singh was often alongside his Commanding Officer during crucial operations. Their bond, built through countless missions and shared hardships, reflected in the General’s presence at his final farewell.

A Hero Remembere

Naib Subedar Baldev Singh is survived by his mother Rachna Kaur, brother Hardev Singh, wife Gurvinder Kaur, and two young children — 13-year-old Upraj Singh and 8-year-old Manreet Kaur. His body has been sent to his hometown, Sirsa in Haryana, where final rites will be performed with full military honors.

In a statement, the Indian Army said, “The nation salutes the supreme sacrifice of Naib Subedar Baldev Singh and stands in steadfast solidarity with the bereaved family during this hour of grief.”

Service, Sacrifice, and a Soldier’s Legacy

Baldev Singh joined the Indian Army in 2002 at the peak of militancy in Kashmir. For over two decades, he served the nation in some of the most challenging terrains and operations. His journey from a young recruit to a respected Naib Subedar is a testament to his courage, commitment, and patriotism.

General Dwivedi, now 61, began his own leadership journey at a young age of 36–38 as a battalion commander. The loss of Baldev Singh is not just a loss to the Army, but a personal loss to a commanding officer who once saw in him a rare spark.

India Mourns, But Stands Tall

As the tricolor wraps around the mortal remains of Naib Subedar Baldev Singh, the nation stands united in grief and gratitude. His sacrifice reminds every citizen of the silent warriors who guard our borders with unwavering dedication, even in the harshest of climates like Siachen.

Naib Subedar Baldev Singh may have fallen, but his legacy will live on — in the hearts of his family, his battalion, and the entire country.
