A disturbing incident of mob violence has emerged from Buxar district, where a young man was allegedly tied upside down to a tree and brutally beaten by villagers after they suspected him of theft. The incident reportedly took place late Sunday night in Gurudas Mathiya village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Mufassil Police Station.
According to local accounts, the situation unfolded around 3 AM when villagers claimed they caught the youth attempting to steal. Instead of informing the police, a group of residents allegedly decided to punish him themselves. Eyewitnesses say the man was tied with a rope and hung upside down from a tree before being severely assaulted by several people present at the spot.
The shocking act has drawn widespread condemnation after a video of the incident surfaced online and quickly spread across social media platforms. The footage reportedly shows the young man hanging from the tree while a crowd surrounds him. The video has sparked outrage among many users, who questioned why the villagers resorted to such extreme violence rather than handing the suspect over to authorities.
Police later identified the injured youth as Betani Yadav, who is believed to be a resident of the same village. However, his family has strongly denied the allegation that he was involved in theft. They claim that the young man was falsely accused and targeted due to an old personal rivalry within the village. According to family members, the attack was part of a conspiracy stemming from longstanding enmity.
Police officials said they reached the village the following morning after receiving information about the incident. The officers rescued the injured man from the spot and immediately shifted him to a hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that his condition is currently being monitored.
