In a strong move, the Maharashtra Cyber Cell has asked popular YouTuber Samay Raina to present himself in person to give his statement on February 18. This is after Raina, who is out of the country, applied to have his statement taken through video conferencing as he was unavailable to make an in-person appearance.
The cyber cell, however, rejected his appeal, stating that he needs to come physically in order to tape his statement for the case that is currently under way. Sources say that the cyber cell has categorically mentioned that video conferencing will not be permitted and Samay Raina needs to follow the in-person mandate.
Raina, with a huge fan base because of his humorous posts and live streams, has found himself in the limelight of late because he is involved in a case related to online matters. While it is not exactly known what the case is all about, what is known is that the Maharashtra Cyber Cell is probing a case concerning digital media, and Raina’s assertion is considered imperative for further investigation.
Maharashtra Cyber Cell’s decision to deny Raina’s request for a video conference has been in question, especially about traveling arrangements and the feasibility of flying for a global celebrity. Publicly, Raina has not reacted to the new order so far but will reportedly obey the order.
This new turn of events has garnered a lot of interest from followers and the media, with many questioning how digital content creators play in relation to legal proceedings and the complexity of dealing with cross-border matters in the modern digital era.
As the events of the case continue to unfold, only time will tell whether Raina will honor the order, or if the situation is to get even more complicated.
