Jaipur Mosque Controversy: In a disturbing turn of events, communal tensions flared in Jaipur’s Johri Bazar on Friday night after BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya was booked for allegedly entering a mosque during night prayers and raising communal slogans, sparking outrage across the Pink City.

According to an FIR lodged at Manak Chowk police station, Balmukund Acharya, who represents the Hawa Mahal constituency, and his supporters were accused of trespassing into the historic Jama Masjid during Jumme ki Namaz, shouting anti-Muslim slogans, and pasting an offensive poster on the mosque stairs. The complaint was filed by the mosque committee, who also alleged that the MLA threatened those present during the religious observance.
“We Were Shocked and Hurt,” Say Mosque Officials
Jama Masjid Committee Secretary Zaheer Ullah Khan, while speaking to PTI, recounted the horror:
“We were in the middle of our night prayers when Acharya and his men barged in, raising provocative slogans and sticking objectionable posters. This is an attack on the sanctity of our religious space.”
Khan added that the community was deeply hurt by the intrusion and immediately reached out to senior police officials, demanding strict legal action.
Police on High Alert Across Jaipur
With growing protests and unrest, Jaipur Police moved swiftly to control the situation.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Law & Order), Rameshwar Singh, confirmed that:
“Three RAC companies, one STF unit, and two regular police companies have been deployed in sensitive areas. We have increased vigilance and picketing around mosques and religious hotspots.”
Congress MLAs Join Protest, Demand Action
The incident drew immediate political response. Congress MLAs Amin Kagzi (Kishanpole) and Rafiq Khan (Adarsh Nagar) joined the protests outside Jama Masjid, standing in solidarity with the Muslim community.
Rafiq Khan said:
“This isn’t just about one community. Jaipur’s residents — Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, everyone — are angry. Entering a mosque with shoes, shouting slogans, and sticking posters is unacceptable. We have full faith in the law. If Balmukund Acharya is guilty, he must be punished.”
Balmukund Acharya Denies Allegations, Says He Was Protesting Pahalgam Terror Attack
In a swift response, MLA Balmukund Acharya denied all charges. Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he claimed he was not involved in any mosque incident and had only attended a public protest at Badi Chaupad earlier in the day.

“I joined a protest meeting called by Sarva Hindu Samaj to mourn the innocent lives lost in the Pahalgam terror attack. We raised slogans like ‘Pakistan Murdabad’ and ‘Aatankwad Murdabad’. That’s all I did. The accusations are politically motivated.”
The Trigger: The Pahalgam Massacre
The tension in Jaipur and across India stems from a brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley on April 22, where 26 people — mostly tourists — were gunned down. At least 17 others were seriously injured. Reports claim the terrorists identified victims based on religion before opening fire, further fueling communal tensions nationwide.
Aftermath: Rising Communal Incidents Nationwide
Since the Pahalgam attack, there have been alarming reports of retaliatory violence against Kashmiris in several states including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Uttarakhand. In Agra, a Kashmiri restaurant worker was fatally shot. Hindu Raksha Dal has also issued online threats to Kashmiri students, demanding they vacate Dehradun immediately.
What Lies Ahead?
This deeply sensitive incident has now become a test of law and order in Rajasthan. With Jaipur’s communal harmony at stake, political leaders and civil society are urging for restraint, justice, and transparency in the investigation.
The spotlight is now on Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Jaipur Police to ensure that justice is served — not swayed by political pressure.
