Israel Strikes Iran: Israel carried out an airstrike on Iran’s capital Tehran on Friday, targeting key military facilities including nuclear sites and missile factories. As a result of the attack, Iranian airspace was shut down, forcing multiple international flights to change course mid-air.

Air India confirmed that sixteen of its long and ultra-long haul international flights were affected due to the sudden closure of Iranian skies. The airline prioritized passenger safety and decided to either divert the flights or bring them back to their original departure locations.
In a public statement on X (formerly Twitter), Air India said, “Due to the emerging situation in Iran, and in view of the safety of our passengers, some of our flights are either being diverted or are returning to their origin.” The airline also assured that alternative arrangements are being made to ensure all affected passengers reach their destinations safely.
Among the diverted flights, AI130 from London Heathrow to Mumbai was rerouted to Vienna. AI102 flying from New York to Delhi was sent to Sharjah, while AI116 from New York to Mumbai landed in Jeddah.
Additionally, AI2018 from London to Delhi was redirected to Mumbai. Flights AI129 and AI119, both operating from Mumbai to London and New York respectively, were turned back to Mumbai.
Air India flight AI103 from Delhi to Washington is also returning to its origin, and AI106 from Newark to Delhi was rerouted to Vienna.
The situation remains tense as aviation authorities and airlines continue to monitor developments in the region. Air India is actively working to minimize inconvenience for passengers and ensure their safety throughout the journey.
This incident highlights how geopolitical tensions can quickly impact international travel, causing disruptions that affect thousands of people worldwide.
