Noida: Abhay Singh, better known as ‘IIT Baba‘, has accused a group of saffron-clad men of physically attacking him during a live News Nation Debate at Noida. Abhay Singh, a graduate from IIT-Mumbai who became a sadhu later, accused the attackers of barging into the newsroom, misbehaving with him, and hitting him with sticks.
After the incident, IIT Baba had protested outside the Sector 126 police outpost, calling for action against the culprits. But he withdrew his protest later after talks with police officers.
No Formal Complaint Filed
Station House Officer (SHO) of Sector 126 police station Bhupendra Singh has stated that IIT Baba did not lodge a formal complaint after discussing the issue with the authorities. Even though the attack is claimed to have occurred, the incident was resolved without legal action.
Who is ‘IIT Baba’?
Abhay Singh became a widely popular figure during the Maha Kumbh for his fearless and in many cases provocative assertions. His shift from an aerospace engineer at IIT-Mumbai to one who is considered spiritual has drawn a lot of curiosity. He is often spotted engaging in public debates and discussions on socio-political topics.
Social Media Backlash Over Cricket Prediction
Other than the recent controversy of assault, IIT Baba also made headlines because of his wrong cricket forecast. Prior to the match between India and Pakistan at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, he was quite sure that India would be defeated and that franchise player Virat Kohli would not perform. But India defeated Pakistan by six wickets in the match, with Kohli achieving a century.

After this, social media users inundated sites with memes, ridiculing IIT Baba for his unsuccessful prediction.
Though the allegations of assault have made headlines, the absence of a formal complaint leaves one wondering about the nature of the incident. Police officials have assured that they are keeping a close eye on the situation.
